Cloverdale is a General Law City with five City Council members elected at-large.  The Mayor is appointed annually by a majority vote of Council members and serves as a ceremonial head of the City presiding over all City Council meetings.

The five members of the City Council are elected to overlapping four-year terms, ensuring that there are councilmembers with experience guiding the City at all times.  The three Councilmembers whose offices will end in 2010 and be on the November 2nd ballot are Joe Palla, Jessalee Raymond, and Carol Russell.  The remaining two Councilmembers are Bob Cox and Gus Wolter.

Bob Cox was unanimously appointed by the City Council on September 8, 2010 to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Councilmember Mary Ann Brigham. Bob Cox is serving the remaining two years of Brigham's term.

The Council appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, and members of Boards and Commissions.  Members also serve on various regional government committees and agencies.

City Manager, Nina Regor, is also the City Clerk for the City of Cloverdale.

Meetings are held at 6:30 pm on the Second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at the Cloverdale Senior Center, 311 N. Main St.
