Independent expenditure committees are pouring cash into the hotly contested Sonoma County Board of Supervisors 2nd District race, according to the latest batch of campaign reports filed Thursday.
The district includes Petaluma, Cotati, Penngrove and the rural sowthwest area of the county.
Citizens For Transportation Funding, a committee supported by donations from the Sonoma County Alliance, Royal Petroleum Co., development interests and the Operating Engineers Union Local 3, spent $32,000 recently on a mailer opposing Pam Torliatt.
Sonoma County Labor, Environmentalists and Democrats for Change, a committee supported mostly by donations from the Service Employees International Union and the North Bay Labor Council, spent nearly $9,000 on a mailer opposing her opponent, David Rabbitt. The same group paid more than $10,000 for a mailer opposing Rabbitt in the previous reporting period.
